B L O G! #1 out of ??

March 10th, 2023

Dear Blog-Reader,

Today I'm making my first post- well, that is aside from the One Direction and Property Brother's fan edits I made on tumblr when I was 11... we won't talk about that phase of life. Onwards and upwards, right? I think we all had a phase of reblogging Pete Wentz or Gerard Way drawn as Invader Zim characters, and if you didn't, you're lying.

Moving on, I think I should preface this whole new experience that you're witnessing by saying this: I'm not sure the direction I want to take this blog, nor do I believe that it necessarily needs one theme. I think I'll just use it to talk about my day, music I'm listening to, artists I'm into at the moment, and probably some art & design news here and there. Along with a dash of "fonts that make me want to throw up," as you might expect coming from a girl whose chosen career path is illustrative and graphic design. In fact, below is a poll. Tell me which one of these fonts makes you want to wash your eyes with soap?

Ask your question

  • Alegreya Sans SC Black

  • Amatic SC

  • Apricots

  • Liham

I hope you wanted to choose all of them because I would.

Let's move on to today's activities.

This morning I attended my beautiful, wonderful, loving girlfriend's first school program! She's an elementary music teacher, and this morning she put on the 3rd-5th grade performance of Destination America, and I have to say that it was truly bangin. I'm so so proud of her for putting it all together, and being such an amazing teacher. Honestly, those kids can really sing. I could just go on and on about how the arts are immensely significant to a child's learning. They also had a ton of their work from art class hung up around the school lobby and hallways. They were very cute. I teared up.

After coming home to my two wonderful animals (Hugo-cat, Argo-dog), I worked on email templates, some product design, and then had the worst anxiety ever trying to navigate uptown Charlotte. Making deliveries to the Bank of America Plaza, I wouldn't say, is one of my strongest capabilities- in fact I would say I was hardly capable at all, yet the task was completed. Did I throw up in my mouth while backing out of my parking space? Yes. Did I manage to just barely miss the pole irritatingly close to the exit? Also yes, and I was sweaty while doing it.

Music of the day?

Recently I started making new playlists. Something I haven't done in years since switching from Spotify to YouTube Music. I have to say, it is superior in my opinion though it does lack some qualities that can only be provided through Spotify Premium.

Aside from This Is Why by Paramore and The Jaws of Life by Pierce the Veil being released on the same day- February 10th, so many great songs by other artists have dropped this year. My music taste is kind of all over the board, which is what spurred my need to start organizing them into playlists. Let me share a few of my favorites at the moment.

  1. Heartbreak Feels So Good - Fall Out Boy It's reminiscent of old FOB but you can definitely hear some modern influences, specifically in the synth "boop boops" as I like to call them.

  2. Ohio Laundry Room - Abby Holliday Recently I've been OBSESSED with her music. She only has a handful of songs and a handful of followers at the moment, so if you're looking for a new super talented, lowkey, indie-pop singer, Abby Holliday is the one to flock to.

  3. It's Been So Long - K.Flay It's been so long is just a feel-good song, and it will hit hard for you if you've been in a slump and need a pick-me-up to get ready to. Listening to this while drawing my eyebrows on in the morning just feels so good.

Well, friends we've reached the end.

I was really busy this week, and I'm not sure why I promised a blog post today? Either way, I've been writing this as a one-shot so hopefully there aren't too many spelling errors. Though it might be later than we all had hoped for, it's going up. I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I did writing it. This is fun, and I will be doing it again.

Thank you, and hopefully my words will reach your eyes again soon.

Happy Friday.

Goodnight,

Mikki
